Hmm... at this moment I have mostly straight on, harder music.
During the day I have the commercial radio on (not my choice but...)
In the car I run Skunk Anansie, Clawfinger and Rammstein.
Odd mix, I know, but they have a few things in common:
Raw power and strong, simple melodys.
At this moment I'm far away from complexity and pretentious compositions.
Let's keep it simple and basic and just... powerful.
Peace!

Good question John. It's true that we're always curious of what kind of music our favorite musicians listen to, and we're often surprised since it's not always the music we expected to be listened by them. Actually Kristoffer, I was wondering if you were a prog music fan, speaking about contemporary bands, if you kept informed of the news in that subject. Another question is about more extreme metal. Have you listened or do you listen to some more "brutal" stuff, like death or black metal, even just in order to let off steam ;), and what do you think of that kind of music ?

Now playing : Gojira From Mars to Sirius (energy-giving music :P )

I am in deed a fan of progressive music but more in the rock direction.
Prog-metal is a part of my past actually but it was the doorway to progressive music.
I'm still discovering the older progressive material like Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Yes and so on but I'm also trying to keep up with the modern stage with bands like Porcupine Tree, No-Man, Blackfield, Green Carnation, Riverside and many more. The most brutal album in my collection would be Meshuggah - 'Destroy, Erase, Improve'. I get my share of Black- and Death metal from others but it's not my cup of tea really. I like aggressive music but that's just a bit over the edge or me ;)

Peace!
Kristoffer

And what about melodic-death metal like Opeth or Orphaned Land? I don't really like death metal but these ones are very melodic... It can be powerful and beautiful! (Aaaaah... Damnation :D )

I love their music (and I'm not alone in ITP ^^), and you?

I don't know No-Man and Blackfield but, it's funny to see that since some months I'm discovering the same music as you. The old Genesis ("Trespass" & "Foxtrot" for example), the amazing "Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness" (e.g.) of Green Carnation and the 2 albums of Riverside are parts of my daily listenings in this moment.

Opeth in deed, yes.
Also Anathema and of course Dark Suns.
This is about how much grunt I can take on an album ;) but they all do it with such taste and finesse.
Also, the new Devin Townsend is a recommendation.
I'm not to found of his production, the "massive sound" but it's his thing and you notice it right away, but the album is great.

Peace!

I totally agree with you on this "massive sound" question ! According to me, such a production is really better for Devin's Strapping Young Lad albums, I would like a "lighter" one for the Devin Townsend Band and I have to admit that the sound is THE thing that I dislike the most in his albums...

I, too think Darks Suns is really great and deserves to be more "popular" i'd say. I've discovered them in a PoS gig, in September 2005. Plus, they seem to be very nice guys. Synchestra is really good, i agree. I got it as a birthday present from my big brother and my little sister. By the way thanks for the vampira video lafouine ! ( blame on me, i search "la nouvelle star" on youtube, and the idea of searching for devin stuffs never got through my mind...). I think my favorite song on this album is pixillate. And, Kristoffer, if had to recommend you one good French band i'd recommend you Gojira, one of the most promising band actually i think. ( i dun know if you want to listen to french music lol but anyway...)

Hi Kriss!

I have a question... have you seen Lordi at the Eurovision 2006?

It was so great although i'm not a true fan! Heavy Metal at the Eurovision, it was so unespected!

But, in France, commentaries were really bad. They said : "Lordi, with big sound and satanic lyrics, won Eurovision"...

And what about Holland?
